Bodum is an iconic tableware design company that was started in Copenhagen Denmark over 70 years ago. Founded in 1944 by Peter Bodum, the family-owned company has always placed a premium on industrial design, collaborating with architects, graphic designers, and artists. In 1958 the company introduced its first coffeemaker based on a vacuum brewing method. Bodum went on to become renowned for its French Press coffeemaker as well as its unique Scandinavian design aesthetic. Since that time, Bodum relocated its headquarters to Switzerland and continued to grow its business into a worldwide concern. Today Bodum boasts distribution in over 55 countries and has produced more than 100 million of their French Presses and 30 million teapots.
All products in the Bodum line are still designed and developed in-house according to the company’s guiding design principles; that excellent design by definition should be functional and affordable to everyone. Always on the cutting edge of innovation, Bodum was responsible for designing the now iconic Assam teapot for the British Tea Council. In developing the Assam, Bodum reinvented traditional tea brewing by applying functional and aesthetic principles from their French coffee press system. This resulted in a tea steeping process that can be controlled by depressing a plunger, similar to the process of using a French coffee press. The Bodum range of products includes Bodum Canteen and Pavina glasses of different sizes, Bodum coffee cups, and the famous Bodum Coffeemakers like the Bodum Pebo, Columbia and Kenya, as well as many other kitchen and house-ware goods.
